Group show featuring 23 works by 14 artists from the St. Cloud, MN area.
Artist Reception: Friday, July 7, 5:00 – 8:00 PM
History: CMW began as a small group of artists with a great love for the watercolor medium. The first formal meeting of about ten local artists was held January 19, 1981, to share ideas, experiences and information; and for the purpose of mutual learning, encouragement and motivation. The first meeting consisted of painting together. Artists brought their paints, ideas and other supplies. Demonstrations of new painting techniques were provided by the members, and critiques were held. Painting get-aways were achieved. As the artists increased their skills, the members were encouraged to participate in exhibits and in one person art shows. Over time CMW became more structured with officers and a Board to arrange workshops and CMW shows, primarily in the St. Cloud area and regular educational events. Our group now consists of nearly 100 area painters, several of whom are professional artists.
Mission: Our mission is to
- provide opportunities and service to our area artists and members
- provide creative environments for all CMW members
- encourage and strive toward creative excellence in all water mediums
Service Provision: CMW provides monthly meetings (excluding the summer) to ensure members can network, view demonstrations by state and area artists, collaboration with the Paramount Visual Arts Center in St. Cloud, MN which bonds CMW to participating in area art promotion activities such as quarterly city art crawls, art shows, art fairs and other area events. On an annual or semi-annual basis, nationally known artists are brought in for a 3-4 day workshops focused on specific topics to enhance member and other artists’ learning and exposure to professional levels of art excellence. These have been accepted extremely well. Coordination and communication lines are maintained through a monthly newsletter, a CMW Facebook page and a website: centralmnwatercolorists.org. The website allows artists to have their individual page, hosts a sales gallery and to post timely informational news items.
The biggest bonus of all is the camaraderie of new and fellow artists at all levels of experience in watercolor.
