Artist Reception January, 8th 5-7 pm
The project to be undertaken is one in which I will set out a goal of two paintings per day every day at the foundation. It is this daily connection to the work which is really important. I have maintained this daily regimen over the last year. It is a search for resonance and for meaning.
The title BOGS; Place, Space and Time, suggests an actual physical place where nature has preserved remnants of human existence. The bog is a place holder for time, space, and natural process. The ancient Celts thought of the bog as a portal to the metaphysical and a place of beginning and end. The Irish poet Seamus Heaney wrote about the bog in a series of works during the Northern irish troubles in the 1970s. The ink bogs are not attempts to illustrate the poems, but they are responses to the rhythms and language of Heaney¹s work.
